Job summary

CSS Inc. in Austin, TX is seeking a General Maintenance Technician to perform routine and preventive maintenance on cranes and other heavy equipment, diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, and repair systems to ensure safety and reliability.

The role requires hands-on skills in troubleshooting across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, plus the ability to read schematics and work with a variety of tools. A strong safety mindset and effective communication are essential.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• 5-10 years of experience as a maintenance or mechanical technician.
• Strong background in cranes, overhead hoists, and mobile/heavy equipment maintenance.
• Proficient in reading hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic schematics and technical manuals.
• Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement tools.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Valid Washington State Driver’s License with clean record; CDL preferred.
• Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical installations, wiring, and circuit troubleshooting (AC/DC, radio-controlled systems).
• Repair or replace gearboxes, relays, motors, and switchgear.
• Conduct basic arc welding for repair purposes when required.
• Communicate with supervisors, engineers, and production staff to coordinate maintenance needs.
• Maintain and organize tools, supplies, and equipment.
• Keep work areas safe, clean, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.

General Maintenance Technician

The General Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine and preventive maintenance, diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical issues, and repairing a variety of equipment with a focus on cranes and other weight-handling equipment (WHE). This role requires hands-on technical skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to safety and reliability. The ideal candidate will bring experience in troubleshooting, inspections, and repair across a wide range of mechanical systems, while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Exposure to noise, dust, cleaning solvents, battery acids, and exhaust fumes.


• Strong attention to detail and ability to remain focused when troubleshooting complex problems.


• Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and maintain performance in fast-paced environments.
