Job description

SUMMARY

Dismantle, assemble, and maintain a wide variety of machinery and equipment requiring fitting, aligning and a wide variety of knowledge. Diagnose and correct trouble following standard procedures. Install replacement parts using stock parts or manufacture and devise replacement parts when necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (others may be assigned) :

  • Investigate and troubleshoot problems with plant machinery and equipment then complete necessary repairs promptly.
  • Layout, construct, modify and maintain a wide variety of machinery and equipment.
  • Install replacements using stock parts or fabricated parts.
  • Responsible for completion of preventative maintenance (i.e. greasing, checking electrical components, oil levels in gear reducers, etc.) work on various machinery and equipment and completing the corresponding paperwork required.
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and repair sensors on plant machinery.
  • Notifies supervisor when in need of parts and supplies (may order supplies in supervisor’s absence).
  • Analyzes and resolves maintenance related problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Trains lower class employees in related maintenance mechanic duties.
  • Maintains necessary labor reporting paperwork.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • May instruct, assist and / or direct others in the department in the absence of departmental supervisor.
  • May train apprentice(s).

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :

Must have a minimum of five (5) years maintenance mechanic experience in the manufacturing environment. In addition must have Schooling / Technical Training in the area of maintenance mechanics or equivalent on-the-job experience. Must have High School Diploma or GED equivalent. If no high school diploma or GED must have an additional two (2) years on-the-job Maintenance experience.

SPECIFIC SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to interpret and read wiring diagrams, schematics and other required documents.
  • May be required to weld.
  • Ability to work well under pressure of deadlines and manage and complete multiple tasks
  • Accuracy and detail orientations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, schematics, production schedules, efficiency reports, etc. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and fellow employees.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

High visual effort required

Occasional contact with machine oils and possible sharp edges of parts and / or materials.

Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; finger dexterity, repetitive motions, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

This position may also require the use of a forklift and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

The noise level in the maintenance department is usually moderate however the majority of time is spent in different departments where hearing protection is be required.
