Job Description
The General Maintenance Engineer will be responsible primarily for general maintenance and repairs in guest rooms, meeting spaces, and front and back of house areas, including kitchen, laundry, electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems. A Shift Engineer will also perform preventive maintenance on major equipment and systems, using a Windows-based computer system. Ability to read blueprints and schematics is preferred, along with basic troubleshooting skills. Good communication skills are necessary.
This position will be eligible for a $500 hiring bonus, with $250 paid upon hire and $250 after successfully completing 90 days of service.
Responsibilities Include – (not limited to)
- Conduct a tower tour during the early part of the shift, checking lights in lobby areas and room corridors.
- Keep the grounds of the hotel clean.
- Check work orders generated in the hotel’s Maintenance Program in your designated area.
- Monitor mechanical readings, water pressure, and temperature readings at specified times; report discrepancies to the Director of Engineering or Engineering Supervisor.
- Complete daily checklists.
- Handle all radio responses and guest requests.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance on HVAC units, kitchen, and laundry equipment as scheduled.
- Perform pool readings and basic maintenance.
- Document unresolved issues or follow-up needs for the DOE and supervisor.
- Record all work performed during your shift via work orders, job tickets, and the daily log.
- Complete all assigned work requests promptly, ensuring work orders are fully filled out.
- Assist in Loss Prevention activities as needed and directed by the DOE.
- Support Loss Prevention in fire alarms and emergencies.
- Participate in training to update mechanical and electrical skills, aiming to develop into a Class 1 Engineer.
- Ensure hotel lighting is operational and functional.
- Conduct basic HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical preventive maintenance on hotel equipment.
- Report parts needs to the DOE or Engineering Supervisor.
- Seek ways to save energy and reduce the hotel's carbon footprint.
- Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and proper uniform.
- Promote teamwork within the department and with other departments, following all reasonable requests from Department Managers.
- Respond to guest room requests within 15 minutes.
- Keep the department clean and organized, including tools and mechanical rooms.
- Participate in total quality management and adhere to safety policies and JSA guidelines.

- Attend daily department meetings and participate in training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or vocational training preferred.
- 1-2 years’ experience in building maintenance and/or construction or equivalent education.
- Specialized skills in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or carpentry fields preferred.
- Hotel experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing 50-100 pounds.
- Frequent standing, movement, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and crawling.
- Occasional stair climbing.
