Job summary

Unity Village is seeking a maintenance assistant with strong carpentry skills to support campus facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. Responsibilities include assisting skilled trades, performing routine maintenance, and helping with construction projects across multiple trades.

On-site role demanding reliable attendance and adherence to safety protocols. Ideal candidate has at least 3 years carpentry experience, High School Diploma or GED, and valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years current experience in carpentry for commercial/residential buildings.
  • Carpentry skills: layout, concrete form work, wood and metal stud framing, sheetrock, metal frame, doors and hardware installation, window installation, finish trim work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist skilled maintenance personnel with repairs, installations, preventative maintenance, and construction projects.
  • Transport materials, tools, and equipment to job sites.
  • Perform site preparation and cleanup before and after maintenance projects.
  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and supplies around campus.
  • Replace air filters, light bulbs, and other routine maintenance items.
  • Assist with seasonal grounds maintenance and snow removal, storm cleanup and event setup/teardown.
  • Maintain cleanliness of maintenance work areas and storage locations.
  • Regular attendance and adherence to schedule; on-site work only.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and time input in electronic system.

Job description

Position Summary: Responsible for first responder for all general carpentry, labor support for campus facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. maintenance requests. Responsible for daily work orders issued within assigned area. Assists skilled maintenance personnel with preventative maintenance, repairs, construction projects, and general campus upkeep. Performs routine maintenance tasks while developing knowledge and skills across multiple facility trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and grounds maintenance.


Essential Job Functions:



  • Assist skilled maintenance personnel with repairs, installations, preventative maintenance, and construction projects.

  • Transport materials, tools, and equipment to job sites.

  • Perform site preparation and cleanup before and after maintenance projects.

  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and supplies throughout campus.

  • Replace air filters, light bulbs, and other routine maintenance items.

  • Assist with seasonal grounds maintenance projects.

  • Support snow removal, storm cleanup, and special event setup and teardown.

  • Maintain cleanliness and appearance of maintenance work areas and storage locations.

  • Clean and maintain the fountains on a scheduled weekly basis.

  • Regular and reliable attendance at the worksite and adhere to assigned schedule. – this position is not a remote or telecommute position.

  • Adhere to all company and departmental policies and procedures per the guidebook including all safety requirements including all safety guidelines.

  • Utilize electronic time management system to input time, attendance and paid off request


Non-Essential Job Functions:



  • Available to work various hours and on-call rotation as needed to meet departmental needs.

  • Demonstrate customers service attitude with teach department interaction and work order requests.


Qualifications

Education: Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalent.


Experience:



  • Minimum 3 years current experience in carpentry regarding commercial/residential buildings.

  • Carpentry skills required as follows: layout, concrete form work, wood, and metal stud framing, sheetrock, metal frame, doors and hardware installation, window installation, and finish trim work.

  • Additional background in concrete finish work and taping and finishing sheetrock preferred but not required.

  • Operate as an assistant to other maintenance trades in Unity’s other departments as needed.

  • Operate effectively after hours and on weekends/holidays, including on-call responsibilities.

  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate self-motivation.


Computer Skills: Minimum basic end user of a keyboard, capable of data entry/inputting information in the electronic time management system.


Certificates & Licenses: Valid Driver’s license
