Job summary

Jacksonville State University is seeking a General Maintenance employee to repair, renovate, and maintain university buildings and facilities. Qualifications

  • Valid Alabama state driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Lifts and carries desks, chairs, tables, beds, wardrobes, and other furniture from residences or apartments.
  • Operates pesticide sprayers to spray residence halls and apartments.
  • D drives University vans and small trucks to transport furniture, cleaning supplies, tools, fixtures, or parts required for projects.
  • Instructs maintenance subordinates in appropriate maintenance or repair tasks.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs water lines, sewers, lavatories, commodes, gas lines and gas heaters in apartments or residence halls.
  • Installs, maintains, alters and/or repairs wiring, lighting, power appliances, light machinery, ovens, ranges, fans, water heaters, and overhead circuits.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs smaller electric motors and related electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Performs a variety of general carpentry including repair and/or construction of tables, chairs, cupboards, book shelves, computer tables, benches, and cabinets; performs skilled bench work; repairs doors and locks, and replaces broken glass.
  • Reads relevant work orders, instructions, equipment manuals, labels, and other materials that are written in English.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The General Maintenance employee performs skilled work in the repair, renovation, and maintenance of University buildings and facilities. Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: High school graduation and three years experience in routine and general maintenance which includes carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
  • Valid Alabama state driver’s license.
