Job description

PrideStaff is currently seeking General Machinist II (CNC and Manual Mill Machines) at a manufacturing company located in Pomona, CA. This is a full-time, temp-to-hire position with opportunity to grow. Please see job requirements below to be considered.

  • Pay Range: $22-28 (pay rate determined on education, experience, testing results, and skill level)
  • Shift: M-F 6:00am to 2:30pm
Position Summary

This is a journeyperson level position. Under the general supervision of the Machine Shop Lead and/or the Manufacturing Supervisor, the General Machinist II sets up and operates computer numerical controlled (CNC) machinery and conventional (manually operated) machines that mills, punches, drills, broaches, or reams metal and/or plastic parts. Make adjustments to adhere to established specifications. Monitor work to ensure that the machine is not malfunctioning. Make general decisions as to quality, tolerances, and operation sequence. The General Machinist II plans and executes assignments using machine tools including boring tools, calipers, drilling machines, grinding machines, lathes, milling cutters, and workshop presses.

Essential Job Duties
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts, and tables or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed, and plan best sequence of operations.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision operations.
  • Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools.
  • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machine work.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine needs for adjustments or repairs.
  • Assist with training General Machinist I and II staff.
  • Separate scrap waste and related materials for reuse, recycling, or disposal.
  • Scan all job orders through the Made2Manage (M2M) system.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of five years of machine shop experience required that includes knowledge of “G” code.
  • Completion of a technical trade school, or the equivalent of education and experience, or trade certification for General Machinist.
  • Ability to use measuring devices to verify that all work meets blueprint specifications required.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and their application required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot including determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Possess effective organization and time management skills, be detail-oriented, use good judgment, and manage competing priorities for multiple projects and consistently meet all deadlines.
  • Must be able to read blueprints, drawings, charts & tables.
  • Must be able to edit programs and write simple programs.
  • Ability to work to dimensions and tolerances provided by blueprints.
  • Ability to set up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools.
  • Monitor speed and feed of machines during the machining process.
  • Must be willing to submit to a clinic drug test and physical prior to start.

Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $22.00 - $28.00 Per Hour
