Job description

Overview

The Claims Adjuster III is responsible for the prompt and efficient examination, investigation, and settlement or declination of insurance claims through effective research, negotiation, and interaction with insureds and claimants, ensuring that company resources are utilized in a cost-effective manner.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain appropriate financial accountabilities (reserving) and control loss adjustment expenses.
  • Handle moderate-to-high complexity commercial general liability losses, including litigated claims.
  • Make timely and appropriate contacts with interested parties, including the insured, claimant/attorney, witnesses, and producers.
  • Determine, review, and analyze coverages that may or may not apply to the claim; plan, execute, and review investigations—coverage, liability, and damages—including securing signed or recorded statements from the insured, claimant, and witnesses.
  • Discuss possible coverage issues with supervisors and draft coverage positions as applicable. Obtain medical records and reports; police, ambulance, and agency reports; photographs and measurements; and expert assistance/testimony.
  • Apply facts, as determined by contacts and investigation, to the law of the jurisdiction to evaluate exposure properly.
  • Establish indemnity and expense reserves as the claim progresses.
  • Control and manage claims-related expenses; determine and execute plans of action to resolution, including minimizing litigation.
  • Work with and actively monitor and manage defense counsel.
  • Minimize losses through subrogation and prompt disposition.
  • Identify issues (coverage, liability, damages, handling), seek guidance, and communicate within authority levels.
  • Determine and fulfill reporting requirements to supervisors, Home Office, SIU, client companies, and reinsurers.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of claims handling experience, preferably in commercial general liability.
  • Experience adjusting litigated files.
  • State licensure as required.
