Job summary

The City of Huntsville’s Finance Department is seeking a General Ledger Financial Manager to lead accounting and fiscal management activities. This professional role supervises divisions, conducts advanced analyses, and ensures accurate reporting of citywide deposits and expenditures.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance/Economics, 3+ years of advanced accounting and supervisory experience, and familiarity with government accounting.

Qualifications

• At least 3+ years of advanced accounting and fiscal management experience with supervisory responsibilities.
• Professional designations in government finance and accounting are desired.

About our Department:

The Finance Department is responsible for monitoring the financial performance for City departments, managing the procurement of goods and services for the city, and managing the city’s cash flow from taxes, resources, and debt. Finance further provides the citizens of Huntsville, elected officials, city departments and other parties financial services and financial management information. Finance also processes, collects and enforces Annual Privilege Licenses ordinances, which includes regular business licenses, beverage licenses, taxicab licenses, bingo license

General Ledger Financial Manager Position Overview:

This is professional, administrative, advanced, and highly specialized accounting and fiscal management work, supervising, managing, and leading the accounting and fiscal management activities of the Finance department. Work includes responsibility for performing and overseeing advanced professional accounting work, performing advanced fiscal management work, supervision of personnel and activities by divisions as assigned. Work includes performing advance fiscal analysis and studies, managing the tax and license administration, supervising the fiscal accounting reconciliation of ledgers and sub-ledgers across all departments and financial entities of the City. Work includes managing all aspects of transactional accounting and reporting for deposits and expenditures/expenses.

Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a closely related field from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education preferably supplemented by graduate-level course work or training in governmental finance/accounting or auditing; Must have at least 3+ years of advanced accounting and fiscal management experience and supervisory experience. Professional designations in government finance and accounting desired.
