Overview

UIC Construction, LLC specializes in construction projects in remote locations throughout Alaska with challenging logistics and weather conditions. UIC Construction’s capabilities include preconstruction planning and estimating; Arctic construction and remote site logistics; and design/build and fixed-price construction. Summary

Perform tasks involving physical labor at construction sites. Responsibilities include site cleaning and preparation, digging trenches, supporting excavations, erecting scaffolding, demolition, and waste cleanup. Load and unload materials, machinery, or tools, and distribute them appropriately. Operate hand and power tools such as air hammers, tampers, cement mixers, and measuring equipment. Assist other craft workers and perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
  • Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate hazards.
  • Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures.
  • Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, and distribute them.
  • Measure, mark, or record openings or distances for layout.
  • Tend pumps, compressors, or generators for power or heating.
  • Mix, pour, or spread concrete using portable mixers.
  • Control traffic near work zones.
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill, and level earth to specifications using appropriate tools.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:
  • Proficient with hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and tools.
  • Willing to work safely and follow all policies.
  • Awareness of safety issues and OSHA compliance.
  • Maintain punctuality and work independently or in a team.
  • Follow directions and interact professionally with co-workers and clients.
Required Experience:
  • At least 1 year of general labor experience.
Physical Demands
  • Lift/push/pull 50-100 lbs occasionally, up to 20 lbs frequently.
  • Perform bending, squatting, crawling, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Work at heights, in various environmental conditions, and with protective gear.
  • Respond to verbal and visual commands, and operate tools and equipment effectively.
Environmental Conditions
  • Endure extreme temperatures, humidity, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Work in high, precarious places with exposure to fumes, airborne particles, loud noise.
  • Use PPE as mandated by OSHA standards.
  • Work in a construction site environment near moving equipment.
