This role will be designated for Discovery Land Company’s building division: Discovery Builders, set in Maui, Hawaii.



Makena is seeking a General Laborer – Forklift Operator to join the Construction Department.



The General Laborer supports the construction team by safely and efficiently performing construction jobsite general labor tasks including operating forklifts and other material handling equipment to move and stage construction materials, tools, and equipment. Including loading/unloading trucks, receiving, counting, storing or stacking shipments, organizing storage areas, and delivering materials to job sites or specified areas in a construction setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily job-site cleanup, including clearing debris, sweeping, and cleaning.
  • Perform simple construction tasks, build fencing, pour concrete fence footings and other rough carpentry work as requested.
  • Use project supplied tools to maintain buildings and sites.
  • Other job specific responsibilities as determined by the field supervision and project management team and as assigned.
  • Operate rough terrain and warehouse forklifts to transport materials across jobsite and laydown areas
  • Loading and unloading company owned flatbed truck and trailer
  • Support crews and subcontractors as directed by the General Superintendent and delivering construction materials and tools as needed to point-of-use
  • Load/unload delivery trucks and organize materials by trade and work phase
  • Assist self-perform leads and superintendents in staging materials for upcoming tasks
  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free material zones and gang boxes
  • Report any unsafe equipment conditions or logistics hazards immediately
  • Coordinate closely with warehouse manager and field supervisors for accurate material placement
  • Comply with all safety rules, equipment certifications, and jobsite protocols
  • Support other logistical tasks as directed (e.g., trash runs, tool delivery, light maintenance)

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Construction experience preferred.
  • Ability to use simple housekeeping and maintenance tools.
  • Ability to take direction and follow through without constant direct supervision.
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Experience working in an environment with shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
  • Able to work and perform manual labor in inclement weather conditions.
  • Valid forklift operator certification (rough terrain and warehouse-style). Will consider if certificate is out of date.
  • 1+ years of forklift experience on active construction sites preferred
  • Knowledge of material handling for construction materials
  • Understanding of jobsite safety and construction sequencing
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in outdoor conditions for extended periods
  • Team-oriented attitude and ability to take direction from self-perform team and site leadership

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working on union construction sites (if applicable)
  • Familiarity with Procore or jobsite logistics software a plus
  • Prior work with in-house labor crews or GC self-perform teams preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor construction jobsite with exposure to weather, dust, and equipment noise
  • Must wear appropriate PPE (steel-toe boots, high-visibility vest, hard hat, gloves, safety glasses)
  • May require early mornings, overtime, or weekend work depending on site needs

  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and a shift greater than eight (8) hours in length.
