Job description

General Laborer

Role and Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities may include but not limited to cleaning and preparing for a project, loading and delivering materials and using a variety of tools and machines, such as blowtorches, forklifts, levels, lifts, power drills, grinders, saws, pressure washers and water spraying equipment. May be asked to set up and/or take down ladders, scaffolding and other temporary structure
  • Ability to remove electrical equipment, cables, wood and fibers of all kinds and properly dispose of material
  • Ability to properly drain and empty out equipment that may contain liquids
  • Ability to load and unload baskets, containers, boxes and/or trucks
  • Knowledge of and adherence to safety requirements in a scrap yard environment, including use of proper PPE
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Ability to walk more than 1000 yards
  • stand for extended periods of time
  • ability to lift and carry no more than 50 lbs
  • climb stairs and/or ladders
  • stooping; crawling; reaching; handling
  • pushing; pulling; twisting; kneeling; squatting
  • seeing; speaking; hearing

Working Conditions

Aboard a Marine Vessel or dismantling yard. Required to work outside in all kinds of weather or in buildings without heating or air conditioning. Some tasks are dangerous, including removing lead, asbestos or chemicals.

Hazards

Heat, rain, fire, burns, falls, noise, heights, air particles, inhalation, falling objects and splashes
