General Laborer

Starting Pay Rate: $17/hr

Job Status: Hourly

Position Summary

The General Laborer assists in the performance of a variety of plant activities from clean-up, stick laying, packaging, maintenance support, etc.

Essential Functions/Duties

  • Ensure all environmental and safety procedures are followed and report all unsafe or non-compliant activities.
  • Performs a variety of routine physical labor tasks as assigned. Areas could include Maintenance, Stacking, Kilns, Shipping, Receiving, treating, yard maintenance.
  • Understand the job assigned and ask questions if uncertain.
  • Performs cleanup at the end of the day or when the job is completed, including picking up tools, spills and debris, cleaning work areas and performing touch-up work as needed.
  • Perform Fire Watch duties as needed to support the maintenance team.
  • May operate a vehicle, forklift or tractor.
  • Attend all training sessions and safety meetings.
  • Other duties as directed.


Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical maintenance is encouraged.
  • Ability to take direction and learn in a hands-on environment.
  • Ability to safely operate mobile equipment.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
  • Ability to demonstrate behaviors conforming to Hoover’s set of values and accepted standards.
  • Ability to be self motivated to perform a task using his or her own drive or initiative.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Can be hot, cold, humid, and/or rainy. May require climbing of heights up to 100 feet.
