Job summary

Samuel Packaging Systems Group is seeking a reliability-focused cleaner/fabrication support for our manufacturing site. You will inspect tanks, remove defects, and prepare vessels for finishing, using grinders, welders, and blasting tools.

You’ll read blueprints, follow safety procedures, and work in a team to meet production goals. The role emphasizes mechanical ability, adherence to quality standards, and accurate documentation in a busy industrial environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with relevant trades exposure.
  • Ability to read bills of materials, blueprints, safety rules, and manuals.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and basic math skills for measurements.
  • Excellent teamwork and clear communication in a fast-paced setting.
  • Willingness to operate welding and fabricating equipment safely.

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect tanks for cosmetic defects and ensure quality.
  • Remove weld spatter, burrs, and rust from pressure vessels.
  • Sand repair areas and attach components as needed.
  • Read blueprints and finishing specifications for metal parts.
  • Operate and maintain blasting equipment and related safety gear.
  • Handle materials safely with cranes, hoists, and forklifts.
  • Complete required paperwork and comply with safety/environmental rules.

Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ability to visually inspect tanks for cosmetic defects.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Must be willing to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • The cleaner is to remove all weld spatter, burs and rust from pressure vessel using a scraper, chisel and hammer or sander.
  • Cleaner is to sand any repair areas and attachments of pressure vessel.
  • If the vessel is to be shipped without paint, the cleaner is to wipe the vessel with cleaner and remove stickers from vessel
  • Cleaner will remove rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
  • Must be able to strip materials using steel shot, grit, Aluminum Oxide or other agent.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and finishing specifications as they relate to finishing Steel Fab products.
  • Must be able to blast exterior of product to specific profiles
  • Proper usage and maintenance of respiratory equipment.
  • Must replenish the abrasive hopper when necessary.
  • Must be able to remove exhausted blasting agent from blasting room.
  • Will use various safety equipment related to blasting applications.
  • Material handling – safe operation of cranes, hoists, and forklifts as needed. Also successfully complete any training/safety program relating to the operation of the equipment.
  • Will be able to properly complete applicable paperwork associated with this classification.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with all safety and environmental requirements regarding blasting agents, their application and disposal.
  • Maintain a clean and neat work area
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Follow all policies.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or GED with one year of trades training and at least one year of related experience; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as bills of material, blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one with other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions.
  • Must possess good mechanical ability and the ability to perform basic calculations to operate welding and fabricating machines.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate a welder, grinder, bandsaw, ironworker, overhead crane, torch, measuring devices and a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Prior work record indicating dependability and conscientiousness.
  • Must be willing to work in a team-oriented environment.

  • Occasional work activity is performed outdoors.
