Position Overview

The General Laborer performs various construction tasks safely, assisting highway, utility, grade crews, or plant locations. Tasks are manual and performed under supervision.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

Highway Laborer:

Prepare ground surfaces, remove debris, operate compactors, level dirt, set markers, and clear areas for paving.

Set up safety barriers and prepare infrastructure components like manhole covers and water lines.

Assist with asphalt paving, including shoveling and leveling.

Assist with equipment operation if trained.

Perform related tasks like cutting concrete/asphalt, sweeping, etc.

Utility Laborer:

Excavate trenches, handle pipes and utility lines, install shoring, guide and connect pipes, and operate laser equipment.

Operate heavy machinery if trained.

Grade Laborer:

Perform groundwork, cut concrete, replace sewer/manhole covers, assist grading, and operate equipment if trained.

Other Duties

• Use tools and equipment, deliver materials, perform site cleanup, assist with flagging, and maintain tools and safety procedures.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred. Construction experience is a plus. Must read, write, and perform basic math. Ability to work with others, pass drug and physical tests, and hold a valid driver’s license is required.

Physical Requirements
