Job summary

American Rheinmetall is seeking a shop assistant to support machine shop activities and material handling in a fast-paced manufacturing environment in Michigan. You will load, deliver, set up, feed and monitor metal parts, manage coolant and oil, remove chips, and help keep the shop clean and safe.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and 0–3 months related experience, with strong communication and problem-solving skills. Background checks and post-offer verifications apply.

Responsibilities

• Loads and unloads materials onto pallets, skids, conveyors, or trucks.
• Delivers metal parts or stock to designated work areas for machining.
• Lifts metal part or stock onto machine and secures it on machine table or fixture to assist setup.
• Feeds metal parts into automatic metalworking machines and removes machined parts after cycling.
• Adds coolant and lubricates machine parts and ways.
• Reclaims cutting oils and removes metal chips from machinery.
• Removes burrs or excess metal from machined parts.
• Maintains cleanliness of shop interior and exterior property.
• Separates metal scraps for resale and proper disposal.

Job Summary:

Assists in machine shop activities by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions:

• Loads and unloads materials, parts, or products onto or from pallets, skids, conveyors, or trucks.
• Delivers metal parts or stock to designated work areas for machining.
• Lifts metal part or stock onto machine and secures it on machine table, in chuck, or holding fixture to assist in setting up machine.
• Feeds metal parts or stock into automatic metalworking machines and removes machined part from machine after prescribed period of time or at end of machining cycle.
• Adds coolant to reservoirs of machines and lubricates machine parts and ways.
• Reclaims cutting and lubricating oils from machines by pumping oil from machine reservoir into barrel, dumping oil from barrel into centrifugal separator that removes metal chips and dirt from oil, and drains clean oil from separator into containers.
• Removes metal chips and shavings from surfaces of machines and wipes surfaces of machines to remove excess oil.
• Responsible for maintaining cleanliness for internal property within the shop/office and external outside property.
• Separates metal shavings, chips, and scrap materials from trash and places them in bins for resale.
• Removes burrs or excess metal from machined parts.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks, physical, and controlled substance testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of AS9100 and IS14001.
