Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Prepare items for shipment and review shipping notices, bills of lading, and invoices to determine priorities.
  • Oversee loading/unloading and ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
  • Determine space, routing, and load distribution for shipments in trucks.
  • Direct movement of shipments from shipping to storage areas and coordinate dock times.
  • Prepare bills of lading and maintain time records.
  • Study procedures to improve efficiency of shipping methods and equipment performance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.

Job Summary:

The Shipping & Receiving Clerk coordinates activities of workers engaged in verifying and keepings records on incoming and outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions:
  • Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, production orders and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
  • Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
  • Determines space requirements and position of shipment in trucks and lays out position of shipment.
  • Determines routing and legal load limits of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of states.
  • Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seals loaded truck doors.
  • Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
  • Resolves receiving discrepancies from suppliers.
  • Coordinates all outgoing shipments with respective dock times.
  • Schedules pick-up times with customer logistics department.
  • Posts weight and shipping charges.
  • Coordinates material flow for commercial customers with scheduled dock times.
  • Prepares bills of lading.
  • Maintains time records.
  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of shipping methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Adjusts errors and complaints.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (as demonstrated through experience, training and/or testing)
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram format.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability displayed and accuracy of work produced, meeting company standards, and requiring little to no rework.
  • Searches out new tasks and expands their ability to perform assigned tasks without direct supervision.
  • Punctuality and attendance.
  • Willingness and cooperativeness with co-workers and supervisors; ability to accept constructive criticism.
  • Follow quality environmental policies and have knowledge of AS9100 and IS14001.
  • Follow safety procedures, security protocol, and wear proper PPE.
Education:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
  • Five to seven years related experience and/or training
  • At least 3 months of experience driving a forklift
Background Prerequisites:
  • Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks and controlled substance testing.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and IS14001.
