Job summary

Valmont Industries in Petersburg, VA is seeking a General Shop Help to support galvanizing operations. You will prepare products and materials, hang parts on spreader bars, stage tubular products, and assist with cleaning, mixing, and finishing tasks using hand and power tools.

The role requires safety awareness and the ability to move between tasks as needed. You will work in an outdoor, active production environment, performing various duties to ensure efficient workflow and product quality.

Responsibilities

• Perform miscellaneous production tasks to support galvanizing operations.
• Prepare products and materials for galvanizing, hang parts, and stage tubular products.
• Clean and finish products using hand/power tools as required.
• Assist in general plant housekeeping and safety procedures.
• Provide back up on forklift or cranes as needed.
• Support other areas of the plant as requested.

Duties include supplying or holding hanging parts, providing materials tools, and cleaning work area and equipment. Manual move freight, stock, or other materials or perform other general labor.****Essential Functions:****Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the General Shop Help position in the Petersburg Virginia Galvanizing facility. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will prepare products and materials for the galvanizing process by hanging angle on spreader bars, staging tubular products, and preparing small parts for galvanizing. Additionally, you will...* Clean and finish product using hand tools and/or power tools according to specification.* Hand wire small to medium-sized parts to racks for pickling or galvanizing* Pull and place chains and ropes around steel bundles for racking* Move lightweight pieces of steel by hand from different locations in the plant and yard* Perform paddling functions to enhance the quality level of the various galvanized products using air guns to blow off zinc needles* Use air or electric powered tools to help prepare steel for pickling or galvanizing* Inspect and identify unsafe production tools, fixtures, chains, and hooks to ensure proper repair or discard unsafe items* Assist in general plant clean up and housekeeping* Work safely, protecting self and others from accident and injury* Provide back up on Forklift or Cranes* Assist in other areas of the plant as needed****Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:***** The ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
