Job description

Under general supervision, serve as a leader of a small crew of workers performing routine tasks involved in a variety of city services. These tasks include:

  1. Engaging in ground maintenance activities, landscape, and/or floriculturist activities conducted at park facilities (including parks, special facilities, greenhouses, and gardens), recreation areas, public buildings, parkways, berm areas, and other municipal properties.
  2. Leading a small crew of workers engaged in clearing, cleaning, grading, and leveling land; preparing records of the activities upon completion.
  3. Excavating for and repairing water and sewage lines; cleaning catch basins, wading pools, and canals.
  4. Seeding, sodding, and watering grass areas; planting, removing, and mulching trees, shrubs, and evergreens.
  5. Assisting staff in planting bulbs, annuals, perennials, and other seasonal crops.
  6. Sweeping, shoveling snow, cleaning, and removing trash; loading and unloading shipments and performing other manual labor and lifting.
  7. Loading and unloading equipment and supplies; cleaning and sweeping public grounds, buildings, and exhibits.
  8. Repairing concrete and asphalt hard surface areas.
  9. Erecting and repairing fences, backstops, and guard rails.
  10. Preparing, painting, and making minor repairs to park and playground equipment.
  11. Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  2. Two (2) years experience in grounds maintenance work, landscape, and/or greenhouse work.
