Purpose:
The purpose of the General Dermatology Medical Assistant is to provide clinical and documentation support to a General Dermatology Physician.
Hourly rate: $24-26 / hr. based on experience
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
Job Duties:
- Provide care according to physician's instruction and in accordance with recognized techniques and procedures and established standards and policies to maintain the health and general well-being of the patient.
- Provide preoperative and post-operative teaching for both patient and family members.
- Assist during surgery or other procedures as indicated.
- Set up patient for surgery including prepping area, draping with sterile drapes, setting up clean tray with anesthesia and preparing instruments.
- Scrub in as assistant to surgeon. Hand instruments and cut suture, keep operative area clean and organized.
- Administer anesthesia as directed by physician.
- Prepare equipment and paperwork for surgery.
- Maintain appropriate records and documentation.
- Rooming & completing patient intake / obtaining HPI.
- Scribing while assisting with exams; attention to detail is key.
- Use clean and sterile techniques throughout the practice.
- Ensure OSHA and HIPAA compliance.
- Assist in wound care, suture removals, staple removal.
- Set up and assist with procedures (biopsies, excisions, lasers, injectables, etc.).
- Prepare and stock rooms.
- Schedule future appointments when applicable.
- Return patient voicemails throughout the day, ensuring all calls are returned before the end of the day.
- Follow protocols to ensure Quality MIPS measures are completed for each patient.
- Maintain knowledge of current products; discuss and recommend them to patients.
- Set up all lasers and assist with treatments (eye shields, numbing, photos, etc.).
- Exercise problem-solving and conflict resolution skills when dealing with patients.
- Ensure patients feel welcome and are treated with empathy.
- Address patient complaints and issues promptly, involving management when necessary.
- Direct staff to appropriate supervisors to streamline workflows.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Clinical Supervisor and/or Clinical Manager.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of medical terminology, cosmetic procedures, and skincare products.
- 2 years experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office or spa setting.
- Dermatology experience required.
- EMA experience preferred.
- Experience answering phones in a medical environment.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and management skills.
- Proficient computer and typing skills.
