Job summary

Good Carbon Co. is building sustainable, energy‑efficient multifamily communities in Western New York. The General Counsel will lead the legal function, partnering with senior leadership on strategy, risk, and enterprise-wide governance across real estate, construction, finance, tax-credit transactions, and housing operations.

You will oversee contract review, regulatory compliance, and outside counsel coordination while shaping a robust legal program for growth.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
• Active membership in a U.S. state bar
• 10+ years of progressive legal experience (in-house or law firm)
• Strong transactional experience with complex commercial and real estate matters
• Experience drafting and negotiating complex agreements and managing risk

Responsibilities

• Advise CEO and leadership on material legal, governance, compliance, and reputational matters
• Develop and maintain an enterprise legal-risk framework with ownership and escalation
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts including EPC, construction, and development agreements
• Oversee corporate governance, entity management, and financing-related matters
• Lead or support tax-credit transactions, real estate financing, and strategic investments
• Develop policies for privacy, cybersecurity, AI governance, and regulatory compliance
