Job summary

WEST JEFFERSON HILLS SD is seeking a General Cafeteria Worker for the 2026-27 school year across Jefferson Hills Intermediate School, McClellan Elementary and Thomas Jefferson High School, with typical hours 9:30 am to 1:30 pm.

The role is a 4-hour/day position at a 9-month term. Permanent rate starts at $16.56/hour and increases to $16.81 after 90 days. Substitute positions are available through Precision HR ([e-mail]) for cafeteria substitutes and lunch aides.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency, required.
• 1–3 years of experience in food service preferred.
• Ability to operate kitchen equipment and follow written and oral directions.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers (students, teachers, administrators) in a kind and friendly manner.
• Help with preparing and serving food while observing portion control and safety guidelines.
• Maintain sanitation and personal hygiene per health department standards.
• Keep cookware, dishes, utensils, and prep areas clean and organized.
• Ensure serving lines stay attractive and sanitized during service periods.
• Assist with meal components and building reimbursable meals.
• Handle cash/monies using computers and POS systems when needed.

REPORTS TO:

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:

General workers in the cafeteria prepare attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency and cleanliness through duties related to food preparation and serving, operation of kitchen equipment, and maintenance of the overall security of the kitchen and supplies. In addition, General Workers adhere to county, state, and federal guidelines while completing assigned duties.

PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• 1. Assist customers (students, teachers, administrators, etc.) in a kind and friendly manner.
• 2. Assist with preparing and serving food while demonstrating proper portion control andobserving and practicing all safety techniques and guidelines of HACCP and ACHD.
• 3. Maintain proper sanitation throughout the kitchen by practicing proper personal hygieneas required by the Allegheny County Department of Health.
• 4. Maintain sanitary areas that include but is not limited to: cookware, dishes, utensils,service areas, prep areas, work tables, cookers, and equipment.
• 5. Keep serving lines and other kitchen areas attractive and sanitized during all servingperiods and ensure these areas are clean at the end of shift.
• 6. Demonstrate knowledge of meal components and assist customers in building areimbursable meal.
• 7. Handle accounts and monies when necessary by utilizing computers and point of salessystems.
• 8. Keep all paperwork accurate and neat.
• 9. All other duties as assigned by the Director of Food Service and/or guided by the cook
