Function

Performs mechanical assembly work with varying degrees of complexity. Assembly procedures may involve adjusting, trimming, and fitting parts to moderately close tolerances, working with parts or components which are difficult to handle, and other skills requiring good dexterity and facility in the use of a variety of hand tools.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Analyzes assembly blueprints and specifications.
• Verifies parts conformance using measuring instruments like calipers, gauges, and micrometers.
• Marks hole locations and drills/taps holes for assembly.
• Aligns components manually or with hoist, and fastens parts using bolts, screws, dowels, welds, or rivets with hand tools.
• Removes high spots and smoothes surfaces with chisels, scrapers, files, and powered grinders.
• Checks alignment and tolerances of moving parts with measuring instruments.
• Tests assembly operation manually.

Desired Knowledge/Education

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

Desired Experience/Skills

Three to six months of related experience or training in entry-level mechanical applications.

Relationships

• Develops close working relationships with other assemblers, material handlers, and quality control personnel.
• Shows a cooperative attitude and takes initiative to support team success.
