Responsibilities
Adjunct instructors are hired on a per‑course basis. Courses are taught face‑to‑face in classroom, lab, or clinical settings; online; or a combination. All instructors are required to meet students on campus and attend on‑site meetings. CVTC adjuncts are dynamic partners for students and the college, and are expected to:
- Plan for and instruct courses in the area being taught.
- Implement relevant and progressive curriculum.
- Deliver high‑quality instruction through effective learning strategies and environments.
- Create performance‑based assessments aligned with competencies.
- Promote student success through timely communication, growth‑based feedback, and strategies to meet diverse learners’ needs.
- Meet professional expectations by maintaining professional currency and contributing to a collaborative culture.
- Model integrity through self‑awareness, personal accountability, ethical behavior, quality standards, and sustainable practices.
- Think critically by applying problem‑solving practices, acquiring relevant information, using technology, and evaluating alternatives.
- Communicate effectively by speaking and writing clearly, concisely, and professionally; practicing active listening and adapting communication for audience.
- Value diversity by recognizing personal biases, adapting to culturally diverse situations, and demonstrating a commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful interactions.
Qualifications
- Technical diploma program instructors: Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university for the occupational area. Minimum 2 years (4,000 hours) of occupational experience in the target job, with at least 1 year (2,000 hours) within the last five years. One year of recent related experience may be waived if the applicant has at least 2 years of post‑secondary teaching experience in the field within five years. Prior teaching or training experience preferred. Must meet CVTC requirements and HLC/FQAS licensing standards.
- Associate degree program instructors: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the occupational area. Minimum 2 years (4,000 hours) of occupational experience, with at least 1 year (2,000 hours) within the last five years. One year of recent related experience may be waived if the applicant has at least 2 years of post‑secondary teaching experience within five years. Prior teaching or training experience preferred. Must meet CVTC requirements and licensing standards.
- General Education instructors: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the subject area, or a Master’s with at least 18 graduate credits in the subject. Prior teaching or training experience preferred. Must meet CVTC requirements and licensing standards.
