Job description

Position Overview

This position is open to the general public and current Municipal employees. It is a non-represented role (no union affiliation) and adheres to the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.

Department and Location

Department: Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00

Location: 3000 Arctic Boulevard

Compensation

Note: Starting pay does not exceed the midpoint of the displayed pay range.

Eligibility and Employment Conditions

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship is not provided. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check, including criminal, education, and employment history. A valid State of Alaska Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are required at the time of hire.

Job Responsibilities

• Manage complex utility interim and periodic financial reporting for two utilities.
• Supervise the General Accounting team.
• Ensure timely fund accounting, ledger accuracy, debt service scheduling, and subsystem reconciliations.
• Maintain financial records for billings, grants, and loans.
• Update and maintain accounting policies in accordance with GAAP.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Options include:

• High school diploma or GED + 8 years of accounting experience (4 at professional accountant level).
• Associate’s degree + 6 years of work experience (4 at professional accountant level).
• Bachelor’s degree + 4 years of experience at professional accountant level.

Additional Requirements

Satisfactory background check, valid Alaska Driver's License, and current driving record. Certifications/licenses must remain current during employment.

Veteran and National Service Preference
