Job summary

Neighborly is seeking a General Accounting Manager to lead the accounting team at our Irving, Texas headquarters. You will ensure GAAP-compliant close processes, manage monthly closures, and provide accurate brand-level P&L commentary.

The ideal candidate has at least five years in corporate accounting with leadership experience, a CPA preferred, and a track record with large, automated systems (MS Dynamics 365).

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in corporate accounting and/or auditing/assurance.
• Minimum 3 years in a leadership role.
• Active CPA license preferred.
• Public company/SOX experience preferred.
• Experience with large, automated accounting systems (MS Dynamics 365 preferred).

Responsibilities

• Maintain and demonstrate thorough understanding of GAAP and accounting systems.
• Ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close for assigned brands/entities.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and provide full supporting documentation.
• Manage monthly closing activities per closing checklist and internal controls.
• Review and approve monthly brand operating P&Ls with commentary on fluctuations.
• Collaborate with finance, brand operations, marketing and cross-functional teams.
• Mentor and supervise staff, drive process improvements and automation.

As a General Accounting Manager on the Accounting team, a typical day for you will include:

• Maintaining and demonstrating a thorough understanding of general accounting systems, procedures, and GAAP
• Ensuring an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close for assigned brands/entities
• Ensuring related balance sheet accounts are accurately reconciled and are fully supported
• Managing the monthly closing activities for assigned brands, entities, and line items, in compliance with the closing checklist and internal control procedures
• Reviewing and approving monthly brand operating P&Ls, ensuring adequate commentary to address fluctuations in trend and variance to budget
• Collaborating within the General Accounting and finance departments as well as with cross functional team members, such as in brand operations, marketing, etc. to support the achievement of overall department goals and objectives
• Monitoring and analyzing the work of direct reports to develop and implement more efficient procedures, technology utilization and automation, and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy

• Experience:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in corporate accounting and/or auditing/assurance is required
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a leadership role is required
  • An active CPA license is preferred
  • Public company/SOX experience strongly is preferred
  • Large, automated, integrated accounting system proficiency. MS Dynamics 365 is preferred.
• Skills:
  • Ability to effectively lead, train, assess, coach, and motivate staff
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and follow up to ensure the department and company goals/assignments are completed accurately and timely
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and Word
  • Strong business partner with the ability to provide insightful analysis and presentations
  • Proven leadership and collaborative cross-functional teamwork skills

• Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting is required
