Job summary

Nelnet is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to bridge the GenAI delivery team with higher education and SLED clients. You will scope solutions on the Gemini Enterprise Platform and drive a technical backlog across GCP and related tools.

Role emphasizes risk and compliance, data governance, and credible advisory with strong client-facing communication. The position supports hybrid work with in-office hours and remote collaboration.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience scoping and delivering GenAI solutions for enterprise or institutional clients.
• Direct experience with Gemini Enterprise Platform strongly preferred or rapid ramp-on Google Cloud stack.
• Familiarity with cloud data, compute and compliance concepts in AI design.
• Google Cloud certification preferred (Professional Cloud Architect).
• Experience in a client-facing technical role delivering AI/ML solutions.
• Higher education or SLED domain experience preferred.
• Ability to translate ambiguous client requirements into a structured backlog.
• Knowledge of FERPA, state privacy laws and education procurement considerations.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical discovery with client stakeholders to translate pain points into scoped use cases.
• Build and maintain the delivery backlog for multiple engineers and ensure sequencing.
• Prioritize backlog items against timelines and contract commitments.
• Serve as the technical bridge while Engagement Manager handles commercial terms.
• Identify and surface compliance and data governance requirements early.
• Advise clients on realistic AI adoption within institutional constraints.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure delivery plans are technically grounded.
