Job summary

Freddie Mac in McLean, VA is seeking a Director of AI Engineering to lead hands-on architecture and delivery of GenAI solutions within the Single-Family Acquisitions division. This role blends technical leadership with hands-on coding, focusing on durable orchestration, evaluation, and production-ready agent systems.

You will partner with the GenAI PMO, EO&T, and Digital Experience to align capabilities, establish a pattern library, and mentor engineers on agent design and operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead GenAI engineering efforts, execution, and delivery partners under a single delivery model while remaining the senior hands-on engineer.
• Stand up a forward-deployed engagement model embedding AI engineers with SFA business teams and ensuring production readiness and post-go-live behavior.
• Institutionalize spec-driven development with written specifications, acceptance criteria, and evaluation targets for auditable capabilities.
• Maintain the team’s pattern library of reusable kickstarters, skills, and reference implementations using AI coding assistants.
• Mentor engineers on agent design, evaluation discipline, and production operations; act as a technical voice with senior leadership.
• Architect a durable agentic workflow platform with a persistent state, declarative configuration, and API integration.
• Design a shared domain graph as common vocabulary across agents and rules for cross-workstream validation.
• Build assessment harnesses and graded datasets to gate promotion with full traceability.
