GIA’s GemKids has designed a brand new program for upper elementary schoolers. Launching in Fall 2023, GemKids will offer an enhanced online curriculum for 4th-6th graders globally, aligning with the 4th grade N.G.S.S. curriculum standards. The GemKids On Campus program will provide an unforgettable hands-on experience for 4th graders from San Diego county. With optimization efforts underway, we are looking for an energetic, experienced, dynamic speaker with engaging presentation skills to deliver the in-person experience, and the live virtual Q&A sessions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Presents GemKids programs for fourth through sixth-grade students in-person.
- Presents other programs such as Girl and Boy Scouts and Science Day, as required.
- Fosters and exhibits a positive and engaging learning environment.
- Coordinates preparation of classroom teaching materials.
- Prepares and coordinates shipping of GemKids materials within the US.
- Answers phone calls and directs inquires to appropriate stakeholders.
- Monitors GemKids’ emails and appropriately corresponds with students to answer curriculum questions.
- Assists with producing GemKids educational materials and supporting resources with project support throughout the year, as required.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally to teach, train staff at partner institutions, and/or promote GemKids at trade shows or other professional events.
- Exhibit and represent GIA’s core values as a GemKids Coach.
- Other duties as assigned.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings and evenings as needed.
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
- Comfortable in front of crowds, classes and on camera.
- Proficient in classroom management skills for students 4-12th grade.
- Posesses fundamental knowledge of gemology, earth sciences, and able to research science topics.
- Familiarity with elementary school kids’ learning styles and behaviors.
- Flexible mindset; able to adapt to change, and comfortable with ambiguity.
- Solid knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Sound knowledge of Zoom platform and ability to efficiently troubleshoot challenges in real time and/or under pressure while maintaining composure through resolution.
- Comfortable with repetition in delivery of classroom experience.
- Ability to deal effectively with a variety of personalities to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Excellent grammar, spelling and punctuation skills.
- Language Skills: ability to read, comprehend and follow standard procedures or instruction (proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English required).
- Communication Skills: ability to communicate complex information in a simplified and clear manner; can communicate effectively with others, able to develop and modify communication strategies to deliver difficult or complex information. Actively listens and encourages the open expression of diverse ideas. Contributes to effective communication and sharing information both in and out of the department. Able to effectively present technical information to audiences inside and outside of the department.
- Interpersonal Skills: ability to create positive interactions with colleagues and a team; actively communicate with others, including management, educators and teachers in a timely and professional manner; maintain a collaborative working relationship with others and peers to improve the team performance. Ability to deal effectively with a variety of personalities to establish and maintain effective working relationships both inside and outside of the department.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma and 3-4+ year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Graduate Gemologist Diploma preferred.
- Required to take AJP upon hire.
- Educational experience with kids preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT (if applicable)
- Work is performed in a designated professional office workstation and environment in classrooms and at public venues (gem & mineral shows, museums)
- Extensive use of office equipment to include computer, calculator, copier, scanner, and other business-related machines and software.
- Able to be on your feet hours at a time
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Pay range: $20-$28.00 an hour
