Job summary

Hinckley Yachts in Maine is seeking a diligent Gelcoat Patcher to restore the sleek surfaces of our luxury yachts. You’ll inspect, repair, and refinish gelcoat, work with fiberglass, and ensure color matching to surrounding hulls.

The ideal candidate has 0–6 months of related experience, can lift 25–60 pounds, holds a valid driver’s license, and is comfortable following safety procedures. On-the-job training is available in a fast-paced, precision-driven shop by the water.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 0–6 months of work experience, may be gained through on‑the‑job training.
  • Must be able to lift 25–60 pounds.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect parts for mold and lamination defects and identify gelcoat issues.
  • Grind out defects and smooth edges using appropriate tools.
  • Cut and apply fiberglass, then shape to match contours and color‑match surrounding surfaces.
  • Sand, buff, and polish repaired areas to a high‑gloss finish.
  • Follow safety rules and chemical handling protocols.

Job Summary

As a Gelcoat Patcher, you’ll be part of a passionate crew dedicated to restoring the sleek surfaces of America’s finest yachts. In this role, you’ll inspect, repair, and refinish surfaces on various yachts. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is eager to learn, and has a keen eye for detail. Responsibilities
  • Inspection: Examine parts for mold and lamination defects. Identify gelcoat imperfections and determine appropriate repair methods.
  • Surface Preparation: Grind out defective areas or smooth rough edges using tools like Dremels, grinders, and sanders.
  • Repairs: Cut and apply fiberglass layers to damaged areas and shape to match contours. Perform color matching to ensure consistency with surrounding surfaces.
  • Cosmetic Detailing: Sand, buff, and polish repaired areas to a smooth, high-gloss finish. Perform general cosmetic maintenance.
  • Safety & Quality Compliance: Follow defined instructions, safety rules, and chemical handling protocols.
  • Other: All duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Experience: Zero (0) to six (6) months of work experience, which can be combined with education. Work experience may be attained through on-the-job training.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift between 25-60 pounds.
  • Certifications: Must hold a valid driver’s license. Vocational education, a plus.
  • Pre-Employment: All applicants must be able to successfully pass a background check as a condition of employment.
Qualifications
  • Skilled in a variety of tools such as tape measure, jigsaw, belt sanders, DA-sanders, grinder, buffer, drill, and Dremel.
  • Continuous mental and visual attention.
  • Ability to work as a team and independently.
