Job summary

Hinckley Yachts seeks a skilled Varnisher to prepare and finish wood, fiberglass, metal and other surfaces to the highest standards. The ideal candidate has marine varnishing experience and strong tool knowledge.

Qualifications

• Minimum three (3) years of painting experience, preferably in boat building or repairs.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
• Woodworking course preferred. Must hold a valid driver’s license.
• Background check required prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Surface preparation of wood, metal, fiberglass and other surfaces for paint and varnish.
• Use hand and power tools, scraper, sandpaper, steel wool, or chemicals.
• Apply paint, varnish, stain, gel coat, enamel, and lacquer with attention to an even finish.
• Inspect finished work for defects and ensure adherence to company standards and customer satisfaction.
• All duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Surface Preparation: Prepare wood, metal, fiberglass, and other surfaces for paint and varnish. Preparation includes stripping, scuffing, sanding, masking, and priming surfaces, hardware, and windows.
• Tools: Use appropriate tools, such as hand and power tools, scraper, sandpaper, steel wool, or chemicals.
• Application: Apply paint, varnish, stain, gel coat, enamel, and lacquer, as appropriate, ensuring a smooth and even application.
• Quality Control: Inspect finished product for defects and ensure compliance with company standards and customer satisfaction.
• Other: All duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum three (3) years of painting experience, preferably in boat building or repairs.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 pounds and be on your feet for a prolonged period.
• Certifications: Woodworking course preferred. Must hold a valid driver’s license.
• Pre-Employment: All applicants must be able to successfully pass a background check as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

• Operation of basic hand and power tools; Sandpapers, paintbrushes, cleaning agents, tapes, grinders, surface sanders, DA and block sanders, polishers.
• Skilled in various painting techniques.
• Basic computer skills.
• Familiarity with matching and blending colors.
