Job summary

ICANN is seeking a GDS Technical Services Principal Engineer to join a team of gTLD technical experts. The role focuses on managing technical systems for gTLD registries and registrars and providing input to ICANN org departments.

A seasoned professional with registry/registrar experience is required. The Principal Engineer will design technical protocols, provide systems engineering expertise, and guide processes to support registry operations.

Qualifications

• Broad knowledge and experience in DNS, DNSSEC, EPP, RDAP, and Whois.
• Experience in software development with Agile knowledge desired.
• Proficiency in at least one high-level language (e.g., Perl, Python, Java).
• Excellent Unix power-user skills and strong technical writing.
• 12+ years in a technical capacity with a TLD registry or registrar; advanced degree options available.

Responsibilities

• Manage software development projects and interact with internal areas, contractors, and volunteers.
• Provide DNS registry/registrar systems engineering and manage external relationships.
• Address operational issues impacting gTLD registries and registrars.
• Design protocols for interaction among Registries, Registrars, and related agents.
• Provide technical oversight for accreditation and RSEP processes.
• Prepare detailed technical documents, reports, and presentations.
• Attend regional and international internet forums and participate in on-call rotations.
• Support Contractual Compliance, Policy teams, and other ICANN groups as needed.
