Job summary

ICANN is seeking a Director of GDS Technical Services Operations in a flexible work arrangement. The role leads engineers operating gTLD registry and registrar systems, providing technical input across ICANN org, and serving as a technical expert on DNS and IDN technologies.

Required is a strong track record in registry/registrar tech, plus at least five years of management. Expect collaboration with internal teams, contractors, and the Internet community, and periodic international travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, plus minimum 12 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job, or in technical capacity with a TLD registry or domain name registrar.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive work experience in technical capacity with a TLD registry or domain name registrar.
• Ideally, experience with Internationalized Domain Names for Applications (IDNA).
• Must include at least 5 years of management experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of operations engineers.
• Oversee operation of multiple systems and services with internal teams, contractors, and community volunteers.
• Provide systems engineering and technical expertise for operational issues impacting gTLD registries and registrars.
• Operate the Registry Service Provider Evaluation Program for the next round of new gTLDs.
• Produce detailed technical documents and reports for internal and external audiences.
• Implement and improve processes to streamline operational activities.
• Provide level 1 and/or level 2 support to ICANN Policy and Compliance teams as needed.
• Attend regional and international Internet technical forums and meetings.
• Participate in 24x7 on-call weekly shifts.
