Job summary

Texas A&M University’s Oceanography Department seeks a GCOOS Applications Specialist to manage high-frequency radar and glider data services, develop data products, and support real-time data streams for a diverse user community. You will work with the DMAC team to ensure robust marine data services and applications.

The role requires a bachelor’s (and possibly master’s) in relevant fields, Python experience, and willingness to travel for conferences and outreach events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree guarantee core foundation.
• Four months of related IT experience including Python programming.
• Ability to travel for conferences or outreach events.
• Travel independently to other or remote locations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and enhances underwater glider piloting tool (GANDALF) and its database, and the HFR dashboard and data pipelines.
• Compiles, organizes, validates, and reviews oceanographic data and metadata from sensors and platforms.
• Maintains and troubleshoots servers, infrastructure, software applications, and data pipelines.
• Analyzes oceanographic data and informs development of data products and software applications.
• Designs, develops, and maintains software applications and data services using Python.
• Collaborates with governmental and nongovernmental partners for project implementation.
• Represents GCOOS at meetings and travel as needed.
• Prepares proposals for funding agencies and develops training materials.
