Job summary

MI Cannalytics is seeking a Laboratory Chemist specializing in GC-MS and/or ICP-MS to support a state-licensed cannabis testing laboratory in Michigan. This is a full-time, in-lab role within a fast-paced, production-driven, and highly regulated environment.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical chemistry expertise, hands-on instrumentation experience, and the ability to maintain accuracy, compliance, and efficiency under high-throughput conditions in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or related natural science
  • 2+ years of full-time, post-academic experience with GC-MS and/or ICP-MS
  • Ability to pass background screening and meet state cannabis employment requirements
  • Strong analytical chemistry and data analysis skills
  • Experience with instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated ability to follow SOPs and work in a regulated laboratory environment
  • High attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy under pressure

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical testing of cannabis and cannabis products using GC-MS and/or ICP-MS
  • Conduct sample preparation across multiple matrices, including reagent and standard preparation
  • Analyze and interpret data for residual solvents, heavy metals, and contaminants
  • Ensure compliance with PA regulations, ISO/IEC 17025 standards, and internal SOPs
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with GDP
  • Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation
  • Execute daily instrument performance checks and quality control procedures
  • Maintain chain-of-custody and accurate cannabis tracking, including destruction documentation
  • Review, verify, and document analytical results in LIMS
  • Assist with method validation, verification, and proficiency testing
  • Support internal audits and quality assurance initiatives
  • Coordinate with external vendors for instrument service and preventative maintenance
  • Maintain laboratory inventory for reagents, standards, and consumables
  • Support sample intake, accessioning, and non-analytical testing as needed
  • Provide guidance and workflow support to Laboratory Technicians and Assistants
  • Identify and recommend process improvements and method efficiencies

Laboratory Chemist - GC-MS / ICP-MS (Cannabis Testing Laboratory)

Location: Warren, MI
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: Starting at $30/hour (commensurate with experience)
Schedule: Monday-Friday | Day Shift (8:30AM-5PM or as needed to meet turnaround times)

Job Overview

MI Cannalytics is seeking a Laboratory Chemist specializing in GC-MS and/or ICP-MS to support our state-licensed testing laboratory serving the Michigan cannabis market. This is a full-time, in-lab position within a fast-paced, production-driven, and highly regulated environment.

This role is responsible for analytical testing, instrumentation performance, quality control, and data integrity in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Health regulations and ISO/IEC 17025 quality standards.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical chemistry expertise, hands-on instrumentation experience, and the ability to maintain accuracy, compliance, and efficiency under high-throughput conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform analytical testing of cannabis and cannabis products using GC-MS and/or ICP-MS
  • Conduct sample preparation across multiple matrices, including reagent and standard preparation

  • Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation
  • Execute daily instrument performance checks and quality control procedures

  • Review, verify, and document analytical results in LIMS, ensuring data integrity and compliance

Required Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass background screening and meet state cannabis employment requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or related natural science
  • 2+ years of full-time, post-academic experience with GC-MS and/or ICP-MS
  • Strong analytical chemistry and data analysis skills
  • Experience with instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated ability to follow SOPs and work in a regulated laboratory environment
  • High attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy under pressure
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in cannabis, pharmaceutical, environmental, or food testing laboratories
  • Experience with GC-MS, ICP-MS, LC-MS/MS or HPLC
  • Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 quality systems and accreditation requirements
  • Experience with method development and validation
  • Experience with Agilent instrumentation platforms
  • Experience with LIMS
  • Peer leadership or training experience
Work Environment
  • Fast-paced, production-driven laboratory environment
  • Continuous video and audio surveillance in accordance with state regulations
  • Required use of PPE (lab coat, gloves, eye protection)
  • Exposure to chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, and laboratory equipment
  • Moderate to loud noise levels
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, sit, and move throughout the workday
  • Frequent use of hands for laboratory work and data entry
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs
  • Strong visual acuity, including close vision and color differentiation
  • Ability to maintain concentration and produce accurate work consistently
