Precision Castparts Corp. (Wyman Gordon) in Dillon, SC is seeking a GBE Machinist – Level 2 (Milling) to operate 2–5 axis CNC cells and standalone machines on a 2nd shift (6pm–6am).

You will prepare fixtures/tools, load programs and offsets, and perform in-process inspections to ensure part quality. The ideal candidate has 4–6 years of CNC milling/lathing experience, a high school diploma or GED, and related certification or degree.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; CNC operator certification preferred.
  • 4–6 years manufacturing experience operating CNC mills or lathes.
  • Able to read prints and interpret tolerances.
  • Willing to train for 2nd shift 6pm–6am; overtime may be required.
  • Pass customer testing and meet quality specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Operate 2–5 axis CNC/Automated cells and standalone machines.
  • Set up fixtures and cutting tools; load offsets and programs.
  • Use height gauges, air gauges and bench inspection for quality.
  • Maintain 6S standards and clean, organized workspace.
  • Communicate with team to ensure first piece acceptance and stoppage when needed.

Job Description

Location Profile:

Located in Dillon, South Carolina Wyman Gordon is a major industrial manufacturer serving a wide range of industries including aerospace, power generation, and industrial businesses.

Position Summary:

Level Two: Building upon level one, with minimal assistance level two machinists operate 2-5 axis CNC/Automated machine cells as well as standalone machines, which requires basic machine setup including preparing and setting up fixtures and cutting tools, as well as loading and adjusting CNC programs and offsets. Level two machinist competencies include the ability to use more advanced quality inspection tools and techniques such as height and air gauges and bench inspection. The level two machinist will have basic competencies in print reading and common CNC G and M codes. Typically, 4-6 years of experience.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • This position will require to be trained on 2nd shift, 6pm to 6am.
  • Obtain job assignments from supervisor or manager.
  • Work safely in accordance to plant safety guidelines including cardinal rules of safety.
  • Adheres to quality processes including in-process inspections to ensure compliance with quality specifications.
  • Must meet all Level I Machinist requirements.
  • Perform machining operations for 4 to 6 different parts.
  • Must be able to work in a high-performance team setting to achieve common goals.
  • Responsible for his / her part quality and utilizes standard and customer measuring equipment to perform dimensional checks.
  • Must be capable of using more advanced quality measuring tools.
  • With minimal supervision can rework / repair out of tolerance specifications.
  • Maintains machines in operational condition by performing daily preventive maintenance checks of oil levels and coolant concentration, reporting any machine abnormalities to the shift team leader or supervisor.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area to 6S standards.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts through verbal or documented communication for required actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Communicates with manufacturing on first piece acceptance and stopping processes due to failing parts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.

Required Skills:

  • Basic English language skills and the ability to read, follow, and interpret planning and work order instructions
  • Basic PC skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Ability to professionally communicate and work cooperatively with others
  • As required, must be able to pass any Customer required testing/machining specifications pertaining to their parts and standards.
  • Skill in following directions both verbal and written and in transferring instructions into action.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks and high volume of work on a deadline.
  • Attention to detail
  • Intermediate math skills to include adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, and fractions for the purpose of print reading and tolerance determination.
  • Willingness to learn

Experience & Education

  • High school diploma or GED required; CNC operator / machinist diploma or certification preferred. Machine Tool Technology degree a definite plus.
  • 4 to 6 years of manufacturing experience operating CNC mills or lathes; prior military experience; or technical certification / degree

Working Conditions:

  • Constant exposure to indoor manufacturing environment
  • Constant exposure to moderate noise
  • Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes, odors, hot / cold temperatures, inside / outside noise vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.
  • Must be able to work any shift including overtime, weekends and holidays if scheduled.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds on a repetitive basis.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and work at heights on an intermittent basis for up to twelve (12) hours.
  • Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping, pushing and pulling of materials.
  • Must be able to safety operate an overhead crane.
  • Must be able to reach and work above and below the shoulder level.
  • Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.
  • Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Visual acuity skill to detect any flaws in the parts being inspected.
