Job summary

JAS Forwarding (USA), Inc. is seeking a senior Operations leader to oversee Air Gateway import/export activities in Los Angeles.

You will drive efficiency, negotiate with carriers, and manage budgets while ensuring top-tier service levels for internal and international partners. Ideal candidates bring extensive gateway/air freight experience, strong leadership, and a track record of improving operational performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, Transportation, or related field preferred; equivalent education/experience considered.
• 5-7 years of freight forwarding, transportation, or logistics experience.
• 4+ years of Gateway, HUB, or air freight consolidation operations experience.
• 4+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of domestic and international transportation networks, routing, and cargo movement.
• Experience negotiating carrier agreements and managing airline relationships.
• Experience managing KPIs and driving operational performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all Air Gateway import and export operations per policy.
• Drive service quality and operational performance for internal branch customers, overseas partners, and external stakeholders.
• Develop strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, and cost management in gateway operations.
• Oversee scheduled consolidation services and ensure timely, accurate movement of freight domestically and internationally.
• Coordinate export consolidations and advise U.S. stations and global network partners.
• Build and maintain relationships with airlines, carriers, and service providers to support capacity and service objectives.
• Negotiate pricing, service agreements, and operational parameters with carriers.
• Monitor carrier performance and address service failures promptly and document outcomes.
• Implement, maintain, and improve operational procedures, communication standards, and customer service processes.
• Manage departmental budgets and support financial objectives through cost control.
• Partner with Operations, Finance, HR, and Compliance to resolve operational, personnel, and administrative matters.
• Ensure compliance with policies, regulatory requirements, security protocols, and work instructions.
• Analyze operational metrics and develop action plans for continuous improvement and performance excellence.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and manage all Air Gateway import and export operations in accordance with JAS policies, procedures, and established best practices.
• Ensure the highest levels of service quality and operational performance are delivered to internal branch customers, overseas partners, and external stakeholders.
• Develop and execute operational strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, and cost management within the gateway operation.
• Oversee scheduled consolidation services and ensure timely, accurate movement of freight to domestic and international destinations.
• Coordinate export consolidations and provide operational support and communication to U.S. stations and global network partners.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with airlines, carriers, and service providers to support capacity requirements and service objectives.
• Negotiate pricing, service agreements, and operational parameters with carriers to support gateway and organizational goals.
• Monitor carrier performance and ensure service failures are promptly addressed, communicated, and documented.
• Implement, maintain, and improve operational procedures, communication standards, and customer service processes.
• Manage departmental budgets and support financial objectives through cost control and operational optimization.
• Partner with Operations, Finance, Human Resources, and Compliance teams to effectively resolve operational, personnel, and administrative matters.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead, coach, and develop gateway employees through performance management, mentoring, training, and career development initiatives.
• Foster a collaborative, customer-focused, and results-driven culture while promoting teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Manage all aspects of employee lifecycle activities, including recruiting, onboarding, performance evaluations, employee relations, corrective actions, and succession planning in partnership with Human Resources.

Education & Experience

ENVIRONMENT

100% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions. Travel will be (up to__ %) required in support of the position's responsibilities. The base salary range for this position is $110,000 to $120,000 annually, in accordance with the state pay transparency law. Individual pay within this range is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, education, skills, and performance.
