Job summary

Boys & Girls Club Of Portage County in Stevens Point, WI is seeking a Gateway Assistant Program Coordinator (Part-Time) to support the Director of GPS with program management and youth supervision for 12 to 17-year-olds court-ordered to the program. The role includes developing and implementing youth programs, coordinating staff, and ensuring safety and positive outcomes.

A valid driver’s license and high school diploma or GED are required; some college experience and 2 years in youth

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive shuttle.
  • High school diploma or a GED is required, some college experience and 2 years of experience in youth development is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children from diverse backgrounds, as well as a range of other organizational personnel in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behaviors.
  • Ability to deal with the general public.
  • Ability to implement quality programs for youth.
  • Ability to organize and supervise Club members in a safe environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in groups.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the referral, intake, and case management system.
  • Assist in planning, management, and implementation of program activities, and development of monthly program schedules.
  • Allocate and monitor work assigned to program staff, providing ongoing feedback.
  • Assist in identifying training and development opportunities for staff.
  • Ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers.
  • Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of Club members.
  • Work with youth to ensure requirements are met.
  • Reduce recidivism rates of juvenile offenders of Portage County.
  • Reduce out-of-home care expenses to Portage County government and community.
  • Provide necessary services and programs and/or referrals to youth.
  • Reduce academic failure among youth.
  • Instill in youth an increased sense of connectedness to their community.
  • Instill in youth a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and influence.
  • Provide 1:1 mentoring to program participants.
  • Ensure that Club members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/ activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program areas.
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to program staff and Club members.
  • Enforce discipline policies during each program.
  • Ensure the evaluation of Club programs and track participation numbers; assist in grant reporting.

Overview

In collaboration and partnership with Portage County Courts, Juvenile Detention Center, and Portage County Health and Human Services, the Gateway Assistant Program Coordinator assists the Director of GPS with overall program management, participant supervision, program planning, and implementation of the Gateway Report Center. This includes development and implementation of programs to include educational, character and leadership, health and life skills, arts and crafts, and recreational activities for 12 to 17‑year‑old students that are court‑ordered to the program.

Primary Duties for the Assistant Program Coordinator
Site Leadership and Management
  • Assist in managing the referral, intake, and case management system.
  • Assist in the planning, management, and implementation of program activities, and development of monthly program schedules.

Implementation of Youth Development Programs

Evaluate Youth Development Programs
  • Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis and ensure programs/ activities respond to Club member's needs.
  • Participation numbers are tracked for each activity.
  • Assist in collecting outcome data when requested.
  • Assist in grant reporting when necessary.
Facility Management
  • Follow and assist with the daily & weekly cleaning schedule.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, neat and properly equipped program area.
  • Ensure that staff understand and effectively communicate standards of program.
  • Ensure that Club equipment is maintained and in good working condition, so it is safe and inviting for all Club members.
  • Assist in keeping program supplies organized and maintained to limit wasted resources.
  • Responsible for daily set‑up and clean‑up of all materials used during the program.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Active environment that requires the employee to be on their feet for hours at a time.
