Job summary

Health First in New York is seeking a Gastroenterology Reprocessing Technician to support safe, high-quality endoscope reprocessing and patient care. You will perform technical activities, assist licensed personnel and help maintain clean, compliant scope rooms, with a focus on safety and quality.

The role is full-time with a 8:00am–4:30pm shift and a PG-21 paygrade. Applicants should be prepared to follow ASGE/SGNA standards, maintain logs, and collaborate with physicians to manage scope flow

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to communicate and share workload evenly.
• BLS certification (AHA) within 90 days of start date.

Responsibilities

• Maintain all tracking records and testing logs for scope room and environment of care.
• Adhere to universal precautions and wear PPE per ASGE/SGNA standards.
• Perform proper daily maintenance of endoscope reprocessing equipment.
• Assist in management and troubleshooting equipment failures and service/repair of endoscopes and accessories.
• Follow manufacturer guidelines for leak testing, cleaning and reprocessing of endoscopes to provide high level disinfection.
• Handle delicate endoscopes with care and store per manufacturers’ guidelines.
• Collaborate with physicians and staff to manage patient flow for scopes.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Gastroenterology Reprocessing Technician provides uncompromised safety, superior quality, customer service and stewardship by providing a variety of technical activities related to patient care and assisting licensed personnel in delivery of care through the productive utilization of the individuals’ skills.

Primary Accountabilities

• Maintains all tracking records and testing logs for scope room and environment of care properly.
• Adheres to universal precautions and wears proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) per set ASGE/SGNA standards.
• Performs proper daily maintenance of equipment to ensure proper reprocessing of endoscopes.
• Assists in management and troubleshooting equipment failure, including proper procedure for service and/or repair of endoscopes, and all processors or accessories.
• Follows manufacturer guidelines for leak testing of endoscopes, manual cleaning and reprocessing of endoscopes and accessories to provide high level disinfection.
• Handles delicate endoscopes with care to prevent damage. Ensure that scopes are hung and stored appropriately per manufacturers’ guidelines.
• Works with physicians and staff to keep up with patient flow/demand for scopes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Work Experience: None
• Licensure: None
• Certification: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare provider card within 90 days or start date and maintained.
• Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Demonstrates communication skills and ability to share workload evenly and complete work in a timely manner to meet patient volumes.

Preffered Qualifications

• Work Experience: One (1) years’ experience working in scope reprocessing room or sterile processing.

Physical Requirements (medium)

• Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently.
• May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
• May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead.
• May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
• May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise.
• May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
• Workspace may vary from open to confined.
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
