Job description

OUR MISSION: To fulfill President Lincoln's promise "To care for those who have served in our nation's military and for their families, caregivers, and survivors" - by serving and honoring the men and women who are America's Veterans.

Hampton has a rich military history, being home to Langley Air Force Base, the first military installation dedicated solely to air power, and hosting the U.S. Air Force's 633rd Air Base Wing and the 1st and 192nd Fighter Wings. The city has been a center for military aviation training, research, and development for nearly a century. Its proximity to Norfolk means it has long been home to Navy families. Hampton also boasts several arts venues and museums celebrating its history, including The American Theater, the Casemate Museum, the Charles Taylor Visual Arts Center, the Hampton History Museum, Hampton University Museum, the Performing & Creative Arts Center, and the Virginia Air & Space Center.

We are seeking a BE/BC Staff Gastroenterologist to provide exceptional care to our veterans. Role and responsibilities include:

  1. Providing direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, specific to the subspecialty.
  2. Timely screening and resolution of consultations from other disciplines.
  3. Performing a full range of therapeutic interventions, including endoscopic procedures, diagnostic assessments, medication evaluation, and management.
  4. Ordering diagnostic tests, interpreting findings, and making appropriate treatment decisions.
  5. Documenting care accurately in the medical records in accordance with Medical Center bylaws.
  6. Supervising residents, fellows, medical students, NP/PA students, and other team members as appropriate.
  7. Overseeing clinical care provided by Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants on inpatient and outpatient services.
  8. Participating in team meetings, treatment planning, and collaborating with multidisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  9. Providing weekend and holiday coverage for the gastroenterology consultation service and inpatient service, as scheduled.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

The Hampton, VA Coastal Healthcare System serves approximately 50,000 Veterans across 9 cities.

BENEFITS include:

  • Flexible work schedules and shifts
  • Low patient-provider ratios
  • Robust insurance coverage
  • Work from anywhere in the country with one license
  • Stable employment with competitive salary and regular increases
