Job summary

UC Davis Health is hiring a Nurse Practitioner II to provide independent advanced level clinical expertise in GI and related areas, under standardized procedures or licensure. You will manage chronic and acute conditions, collaborate with the care team, and support education for patients and staff.

The role is 100% on-site with a Monday–Friday schedule, salary range $87.69–$115.72 hourly, and benefits included. Credentialing, safety training, and ongoing professional development are required.

Qualifications

• Valid California RN license without restriction.
• California NP furnishing license required.
• California NP board certification in aligned specialty.
• DEA certificate within 3 months of hire.
• BLS/CPR certification required (AHA or Red Cross or UC Davis Health).
• National NP board certification in aligned specialty.
• Master's degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing.
• At least 1 year of NP experience.
• At least 1 year of recent GI clinical experience.

Responsibilities

• 80% outpatient clinical work (GI-focused) as assigned.

Job description

To provide independent advanced level nurse practitioner clinical expertise to patients and their families on an on-going basis. This includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and specialty protocols (e.g. chemotherapy) as defined by standardized procedures or independently based on licensure. This may include non-invasive or invasive procedures, surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office. Patient management decisions are independent where appropriate after assessment of the patient and interdependent with consultation with an attending or other member of the team. NPs are expected to act as an expert resource person for SOM_SON care providers including nurses, residents and other ancillary staff.

Provides patient care in a team based care environment to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

• Judgement skills to effectively meet the needs of patients
• Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role
• Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider

Preferred Qualifications

• One (1) year or greater recent clinical experience in specialty care of the hiring department highly desirable

Department Overview

These positions will provide 8 half days of outpatient clinic follow-up support for IBD, hepatology, motility, general GI, and advanced endoscopy in our Division of Gastroenterology. This will allow our GI physicians to increase access to new patients and procedures. There is a significant backlog at all GI/hepatology outpatient locations, so these hires will significantly improve access. This is a partnership with the Community Physician Group.
