Job summary

NY STATE ELECTRIC & GAS CORP is seeking a Gas Welder for the Ithaca Service Center. Under general supervision, you will lay out and perform welding on gas piping, equipment, and structural components, and may supervise a teammate during welding operations.

Requirements include completion of Gas Fitter 1/C training, prior welding experience, a welder qualification test, and a high school diploma or GED. The role emphasizes safety, adaptability to outdoor conditions, and readiness to work extra

Qualifications

Prior welding experience gained through training or previous job experience.
Completion of training for Gas Fitter 1/C as outlined in the Gas Department Training and Job Progression agreement.
Successful completion of a welder qualification test (requalification required every three years).
High school diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma recognized by New York State.
Thorough knowledge of company gas practices and standards.
Familiarity with company safety rules, first aid, and resuscitation methods.
Ability to qualify for operator's licenses as legally required.

Responsibilities

Perform welding on gas piping, equipment, and structural components.
Direct the work of a Gas Welder or Gas Fitter 1/C assisting with welding operations.
Carry out duties related to equipment operation, digging, and traffic direction.
Execute tasks typically assigned to a Gas Fitter 1/C.
Adhere to safety regulations and best practices while performing welding duties.
Complete other related or lower-skilled work as required.
