Benchmark, established in 2012, provides damage prevention services and private utility-locating across VA, DC, and surrounding states. We seek a Locate Technician in Richmond, VA to accurately locate underground utilities using specialized equipment, collaborating with managers, crews, and homeowners.

Training leading to locator certification is provided; expect outdoor work with safety-first responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Willingness to learn; instructor-led training is required to receive locator certification.
• Ability to drive local roads, work outdoors and operate independently.
• Ability to perform locate duties outside normal business hours when on call.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to access restricted areas (such as federal installations).
• Ability to lift, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
• Walk up to 5 miles in a day across varied terrains and weather.

Responsibilities

• Use mechanical/technical equipment to locate underground facilities such as telephone lines, electrical power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines, and sewer lines.
• Communicate and interact daily with managers, excavation crews, and homeowners to discuss locate issues.
• Interpret job order tickets and respond appropriately to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Read maps and blueprints to ensure accurate location of utilities.
• Determine efficient route to each locate in rural and urban areas.
• Remove and replace manhole lids.
