Job Summary:

Supporting NRG's fleet of gas turbines nationwide at the corporate level, the Gas Turbine Engineer provides on-site support for field inspections, condition assessments, and recommendations for operation, repair, or replacement. The role involves coordinating repair activities with various repair shops and suppliers, reviewing quality plans, and monitoring supplier quality. Emphasis is placed on communication with peers, site management, and leadership. Responsibilities include reviewing equipment histories, service bulletins, operational data, and developing long-term plans for gas turbines. The position supports our culture of safety, environmental compliance, quality, and diversity.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  1. Supports and emphasizes safety and environmental programs.
  2. Evaluates component conditions and repair options.
  3. Performs site inspections and condition assessments to aid maintenance planning and risk assessments.
  4. Leads or participates in teams focused on specific operational problems or needs.
  5. Communicates with customers regarding equipment condition and repair scope.
  6. Inspects completed or ongoing work to ensure quality.
  7. Performs field inspections and measurements.
  8. Coordinates activities with vendors, contractors, and other divisions.
  9. Proactively recognizes and helps resolve problems.
  10. Conducts root cause analysis of system and equipment issues.
  11. Develops quality work plans as needed.
  12. Performs engineering calculations within area of responsibility.
  13. Assists in outage planning and economic evaluations of turbine projects.
  14. Manages projects within expertise area if required.
  15. Ensures cost-effective use of resources.
  16. Prepares reports and performs technical duties relevant to the role.
  17. Develops and maintains technical specifications for parts, repairs, and standards.
  18. Implements new repair technologies and tracks service bulletins for compliance.
  19. Qualifies vendors and evaluates non-OEM parts and upgrades.
  20. Reviews operating data to identify mechanical and performance issues.
Working Conditions:
  • Office and outdoor environments, including heights, extreme temperatures, and humid areas at plants.
  • Travel approximately 15% across the country to NRG plants or vendor facilities.
  • Operation of a motor vehicle with a valid driver’s license.
  • Use of personal protective equipment in plants.
  • Potential overtime or non-standard hours.
  • Use of a personal computer.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and at least 10 years of experience with gas turbines in maintenance, operations, or troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of vibration analysis, balancing large rotating equipment, materials and metallurgy of turbines, control systems, and familiarity with GE, Siemens, and ABB/Alstom turbines.
Additional Skills and Abilities:
  • Effective communication with personnel at all levels.
  • Leadership in meetings and communication on turbine issues.
  • Project management skills.
  • Knowledge of power plant systems and turbine repair processes.
  • Ability to prepare reports and presentations for management.
Physical Requirements:
  • Standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, climbing stairs/ladders, and equipment access.

Note: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience, aligned with market pay rates in the job location.
