Job description

We’re a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. Intersect develops, constructs, and operates the most ambitious power and data center infrastructure in the country by co-locating industrial demand with dedicated gas and renewable power generation.

Intersect was acquired by Google in March 2026 and operates as an independent subsidiary. We are developing and constructing multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in the U.S., enabling more data center and generation capacity to come online faster. We’re on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.

Location & Team Gatherings

Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016. We’ve been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office - we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.

We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.

About This Role

Reporting to the Head of Datacenters and Fuels, the Gas Power Projects Leader will provide leadership and oversight for a portfolio of power plant design and construction projects, spanning feasibility through commissioning and handover to operations. The Project Director is accountable for the overall performance of assigned projects, managing and developing a team of Project Managers while ensuring program excellence in schedule, quality, safety, and cost performance.

Team Overview

The Datacenters and Fuels team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect’s mission to accelerate the clean energy transition by developing and delivering complex infrastructure projects at scale. This fast-growing, multidisciplinary team of engineers and project managers leads projects from early-stage concept development through construction and commercial operation. Joining this team means working on high-impact projects while contributing to a culture grounded in collaboration, safety, and technical excellence.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide direction and oversight for the project portfolio, including scope management, critical path scheduling, and resource allocation across multiple projects.

  • Oversee and consolidate project schedules, budgets, risk registers, and progress tracking across the portfolio; provide executive-level reporting and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.

  • Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of Project Managers, fostering professional growth and technical excellence.

  • Direct and empower Project Managers in overseeing contractor performance, contract compliance, change control, and seamless program execution.

  • Establish governance and review processes with the internal engineering team to support EPC design approvals.

  • Ensure all project phases comply with federal, state, and local regulations and safety standards, with a focus on Texas-specific requirements.

  • Review and approve major project plans, vendor submittals, and construction methodologies.

  • Design, implement, and enforce robust program-level change management, quality assurance, and safety frameworks.

  • Champion best practices, lead project close-out activities, and ensure seamless handover of commissioned assets to operations.

  • Maintain transparent communication with senior leadership, internal stakeholders, and external partners regarding program status and key decision points.

  • Champion a safety-first culture by establishing and auditing protocols to ensure all on-site work meets the highest industry standards.

  • Foster a collaborative, high-accountability culture focused on technical excellence, cost control, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or a closely related field); PgMP (Program Management Professional) or equivalent certification strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive Project or Program Management experience, including leadership of multiple concurrent projects in the power generation, oil & gas, or heavy industrial sectors.

  • Extensive experience leading the construction of multiple natural gas-fired power plants.

  • Proven success hiring, mentoring, and leading teams of Project Managers.

  • Strong understanding of reciprocating engine and/or gas turbine power plant construction and operations is highly desirable.

  • Executive-level expertise managing EPC firms, negotiating complex contracts, and overseeing sophisticated EPC commercial structures.

  • Deep knowledge of PMI PMBOK, PgMP methodologies, and portfolio management best practices.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and permitting processes relevant to the Texas energy sector.

  • Exceptional executive communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all organizational levels.
