An intraday energy trader focuses on short-term electricity markets, making real-time trading decisions to capitalize on price fluctuations in wholesale power markets. They primarily operate within the Independent System Operator (ISO) and Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) markets, such as PJM, MISO, NYISO, ERCOT, CAISO, and SPP.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor real-time market conditions, including price fluctuations, demand forecasts, and grid constraints.
• Analyze load forecasts, generation outages, weather patterns, and grid congestion.
• Identify arbitrage opportunities between day-ahead and real-time (RTM) markets.
• Execute Virtual Transactions (INCs, DECs, UTCs) to take advantage of price spreads between nodes and trading hubs.
• Trade financial power contracts on ICE or bilateral OTC markets.
• Hedge volatility risks using Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs) and other derivatives.
• Adjust open positions based on real-time grid imbalances and system alerts.
• Optimize hedging strategies to mitigate price risk in volatile markets.
• Ensure compliance with ISO/RTO rules and regulatory guidelines.
• Use trading algorithms, data models, and automation tools to enhance trading efficiency.
• Engage with team members via Slack or other communication platforms to share insights and trading strategies.
• Stay ahead of market trends, evolving regulations, and technological advancements in energy trading.
