Job summary

Oxy, Inc. in Houston is seeking a Gas & Power Accountant to support invoicing, settlements and month-end closing in a trading environment. You will reconcile AR/AP with third parties and ensure timely and accurate settlements.

Reporting to the Marketing Accounting Supervisor, you will analyze trading activity, prepare GAAP journal entries, and assist with audits and intercompany reporting. A degree in accounting/finance and strong data skills are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Confirm monthly AR/AP invoices with 3rd party customers/vendors and resolve discrepancies.
• Reconcile counterparty settlements to the trading system and ensure timely payments.
• Assist in customer disputes (pricing/volume).
• Reconcile intercompany volumes and pricing with internal teams.
• Perform month-end closing procedures and submit reports on schedule.
• Analyze trading activity and explain variances month-to-month and vs forecasts.
• Prepare standard and adjusting journal entries per GAAP.
• Collaborate with finance for balance sheet and income statement analysis.
• Gather supporting documents for audits and intercompany reports.
• Assist in testing new trade system implementations.

Reporting to the Marketing Accounting Supervisor, the Gas & Power Accountant is responsible for ensuring pipeline and power payments and gas and power settlements invoicing are sent out per contract and that funds are sent and/or received timely and accurately.

Responsibilities

• Confirm monthly AR/AP invoices with our 3rd party Customers and/or Vendors and resolve discrepancies timely.
• Ensure counterparty settlements are reconciled to the trading system and paid on time.
• Assist in customer disputes (pricing/volume).
• Reconcile intercompany actualized volumes and pricing per our trading systems with internal accounting teams for equity and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Perform month-end closing procedures and submit reports on time in accordance with the department calendar and schedule.
• Analyze trading activity and explain variances between current month, prior month, and forecasts.
• Preparation of recurring, standard and adjusting journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
• Collaborate with the financial analysis team for balance sheet and income statement analysis and margin tie-outs.
• Gather supporting documents and provide explanations for audit requests for consolidated and stand-alone financial statements (as applicable).
• Prepare intercompany reports.
• Assist in testing and analysis for any new trade system implementations.
• Document and update desk procedures for assigned tasks.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor\'s degree in accounting or finance or a minimum of 21 hours of accounting with a business degree.
• Exceptional analytical and organizational skills.
• Strong ability in managing and processing large quantities of data.
• Ability to communicate in a professional manner and establish effective working relationships with internal operations and external customers.
• Collaborative spirit who displays a willingness to help others and lead by example.

• Initiative to consistently meet internal and external deadlines.
• Overtime will be required during critical times.

Desired Qualifications

• SAP software application experience
• Experience working in a trading system, Horizon and OATI experience a plus.
• Knowledge of gas and power settlements
• Energy Marketing industry experience (2+ years)
