Job summary

USIC is seeking outdoor-oriented field locators to work in the Advanced Gas Operations division. You will use locating equipment to identify gas lines, mark sites, and assist in ensuring utility infrastructure safety in designated areas.

Qualifications

• Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Available to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
• Ability to travel locally during the business day; some out-of-area or overnight travel may be expected.
• Able to pass a drug screen (this is a safety-sensitive position).
• Valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
• Able to stand and walk for long periods of time on varying types of terrain; bend and stoop; lift heavy items up to 75 lbs.
• Able to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities.
• Proficiency with technology
• Able to read, understand, and reference locate tickets, maps and prints; possess basic math to calculate distances.
• Able to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners.

Responsibilities

• Use locating equipment to determine the location of gas lines in a designated area and mark the area with paint and flags to prevent damage to utility infrastructure.
• Some hand digging to unearth gas lines may be required.
• Develop knowledge and understanding of underground utility infrastructure.
• Follow all company, client, state, and federal damage prevention guidelines.
• As a technician, may locate other utilities in addition to gas lines, depending on the project.
