About the Role: Independently plans and executes natural gas leak surveys, ensuring all areas are surveyed annually, including residential and non-residential areas, downtown, higher-pressure systems, cast iron/ductile iron mains, and other surveys as directed. Repairs minor gas leaks at the meter through tightening, adjustment, and/or lubrication. Accurately enters leak data into portable handheld electronic field devices to download data into KUB systems. Performs self-quality checks of electronic and hard copy data for accuracy. Occasionally, assists with other duties including gas, water, or wastewater maintenance and operations areas. Additional duties will be assigned to assist with other gas survey activities as necessary, including cathodic protection (CP).

Qualifications
Physical Requirements:

Works outside 85% to 100% of the time in all types of weather conditions as the job requires. Must be able to walk long distances, up to ten miles and more daily, while carrying portable leak detection equipment weighing approximately ten pounds over rough terrain. Work that is performed in the office is under normal office conditions. May be required to work unusual hours from time to time, as operational issues require. Note: The physical demands described above are intended to relate the approximate physical demands of the classification.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High school education or equivalent
  • Ability to achieve all Operator Qualifications (OQ) required for conducting field surveys and grading natural gas leaks within one month of hire date
  • Ability to be proficient in use of mobile data and/or electronic data collection devices
  • Ability to communicate effectively to the customer and public about safety surveys when approached
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license

Preferred Requirements:
  • One + years of experience with design, construction, and/or operation of natural gas system
  • Two year technical degree or series of related coursework
  • Direct experience with a natural gas distribution system
  • Experience in public relations and/or professional communications
  • Basic computer skills including GIS, CIS, and
