BUILD AMERICA’S FUTURE.BUILD YOUR CAREER AT MEARS.
Mears Installation, LLC, a Quanta Services company, is a leader in the construction and infrastructure industry. With more than 50 years of experience, we are committed to safety, quality, and integrity. We bring together people and resources to build the framework that powers our nation.
Mears Installation, LLC is looking for a Gas Distribution Foreman to lead a field crew in our Kansas City, MO gas distribution work. In this role you own the safety, planning, quality, and production of your job every day — organizing and supervising gas main and service installation and replacement work while developing the people on your crew. Best of all, this is year-round work — gas distribution doesn't shut down when the weather turns or the commercial market slows.
The two skills that matter most in this role are safety leadership and the ability to plan and schedule the work. We are looking for a crew leader who runs a safe, organized, and productive job.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Own crew safety every day (primary responsibility): lead the daily tailboard/JSA, enforce trench and excavation safety (protective systems, soil classification, spoil setback, access and egress), manage live-gas and hot-work hazards, confirm locates, and use stop-work authority to correct unsafe conditions.
- Plan and schedule the work (primary responsibility): review prints and scope, lay out and sequence the job, set daily and weekly production targets alongside General Foreman, and make sure materials, equipment, locates, and permits are ready so the crew stays productive.
- Organize and supervise gas main and service installation and replacement work, including PE and steel projects.
- Direct, train, and develop the crew — including new hires still learning the trade.
- Communicate clearly with the superintendent and the utility or inspector and pass information down to the crew.
- Own quality and code compliance; inspect the crew's work to prevent rework and callbacks. Track production and keep the job on schedule while keeping it safe and organized.
- Complete daily reports, documents, and job aids related to work, equipment, and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Safety leadership (required): strong working knowledge of OSHA trench and excavation safety, protective systems, and gas-specific hazards (live gas, hot work, locates), and the willingness to hold a crew accountable.
- Planning and scheduling ability (required): able to lay out and sequence a job, set production targets, and coordinate materials, equipment, locates, and permits to keep the crew productive.
- Gas distribution experience with the ability to organize and lead a crew of three to five or more.
- Knowledge of PE and steel gas distribution, including new installation and replacement work.
- Ability to develop people and communicate effectively both up and down the chain.
- Valid driver's license (Class A CDL a plus — we'll help you earn one); DOT Medical Card if driving a commercial motor vehicle.
- Physical requirements include standing and walking for extended periods on uneven, variable terrain; repeatedly lifting up to 50 lbs.; repetitive kneeling, crawling, climbing, and reaching; and working outdoors in a range of conditions, including heat and cold.
- Able to travel to job sites as needed.
Pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
