Job summary

The Borough of Chambersburg is seeking a Gas Utility Worker at the Utility Service Center, 80 South Franklin Street. The role involves operating equipment, constructing gas distribution lines, repairing and maintaining gas facilities, and assisting Gas Technicians.

You will work underground and be involved in safety-sensitive tasks. Qualified candidates should have 2+ years in underground utility construction or related fields, a valid driver's license with a clean record, and must obtain CDL A

Qualifications

• Two or more years experience in plumbing, heating, underground utility construction and/or natural gas field.
• Experience with backhoe preferred.
• Must have valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license with 3 years clean driving history and be insurable.
• CDL A license or obtain within six months of employment.
• In good physical condition due to frequent digging and handling of tools.
• Willingness to take training to develop knowledge and skills regarding equipment operation and gas industry.
• Must be able to qualify under DOT/OPS OQ requirements.
• Subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of equipment, including backhoe and power tools.
• Lay and construct underground gas distribution lines and fuel lines.
• Install valves, regulators, meters and allied devices; tap gas lines and diagnose leaks.
• Assist Gas Technicians in connections and inspections for safe installation.
• Report unusual conditions and maintain safety compliance and vehicle/tool maintenance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
